I hope to document my experience with EPIK in this blog, so I hope many of you find it useful and/or entertaining. So here are some tidbits about myself:
I go by Rei online. It’s not my real name, but I just prefer this name online. I graduated in 2013 with a degree in English and planned on going to Japan through JET. I dropped out at the last minute because my family disapproved of my placement. I still wanted to travel the world, so I decided to not give up and applied to EPIK instead in 2014. I applied, got accepted, but had issues getting my documents together in time. My coordinator said I should try applying for the next term, which I did. I got accepted, of course, and started getting my documents ready and whatnot. But then I had issues with my visa. Because I’m of Korean descent, I was considered a dual citizen of Korea and I had no idea about this until it was too late. I renounced my Korean citizenship through a long and arduous process, but it was too late. The process would take too long and I wouldn’t be able to get a visa in time. I already had my placement, but I had to give up anyway. This meant I wouldn’t be able to apply to EPIK for another year.
I went to grad school in the meantime and got my Masters in Secondary English Education. Upon graduating, I decided to apply for EPIK again for the Fall 2016 intake. This time, I couldn’t get my letters of recommendation in on time so I applied to the Spring 2017 intake…which is where my story starts. I got accepted into Busan’s MOE and will be leaving for Korea in February 🙂 It’s been nearly 3 years, but I’m glad I didn’t give up on my dream. I’ll be writing down everything I can, so please enjoy~!
…Also, I made this blog mostly to document my experience for myself. I don’t want to forget anything important so yeah……and…if there is anyone who reads this….I highly apologize for not knowing how to make a prettier, more functional blog…I have no idea how to format/edit/customize this site properly because, as is obvious, IT is not my forte XD
